Hong Kong Art Prize announced the winners and people’s prize on May 16th 2013. The Hong Kong Art prize has been developed to cultivate and recognize the depth of talent in Hong Kong. It is presented by Asia Contemporary Art Show, organized in conjunction with the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association, venue sponsor Wheelock Properties and prize sponsor Art-Lease. With the fast growing interest in art and art investments in the Asia region, it is important to see a wider platform to encourage and promote locally based talents. Winners were chosen from 20 finalists out of over 150 applicants by a panel of esteemed judges. It was great to see a very wide variety of medium of art work submitted. This year’s winner is Jims Chi Hang Lam with his ink and acrylic on wood piece Beacon Sheung Wan Hours. The popular vote by the audience goes to Peter Ross’ Where is Your Heart? It depicts the traditional style chinese tong lau in the older and busy parts of Hong Kong and uses ink pen, tea, and soy.
